Chadian Church

On the weeks when the international service isn’t held at SIL, we have attended a local Chadian church that is within easy walking distance of the SIL centre. The French service goes for 1.5-2 hours and includes singing with and listening to the choir (in which one of our SIL girls is a member), a sermon, prayer and announcements. We have also attended on a week where communion was served and much to our delight, we were treated to a second special communion sermon as part of the extended service J

Our minimalistic French means we can’t understand much of what is said, but it’s nice to get out amongst the community and join our fellow brothers and sisters in worshiping our creator. Once you learn to ignore the speakers distortedly blasting out the slightly off-key instruments, the music is especially encouraging. African music is all about rhythm (and less about tone) and with the enthusiasm of the choir, congregation and the beat of the music; it is pretty much impossible not to swing those hips, tap your feet and sway your arms just a little with the people around you!
